We are surrounded by idols, not only those of other prominent world religions, but the gods of wealth, status, notoriety, and so much more. John Calvin once wrote, "The human heart is a perpetual idol factory." In this new year, we're diving in to the book of Judges where we'll see that dispite millennia since it's writing, we're still plagued with many of the same problems faced in the book of Judges.

Judges paints the tragic picture of a society turning from God to "do what was right in their own eyes." Today, we hear this in phrases like, "You do you," "be who you are," or "follow your heart." We're continuously presented with alternative options over living to love, honor, and obey God. In Judges, we'll see a sinful peoples relentless pursuit of rebellion, and God's relentless offering of grace and redemption.
